5. Register Of Pathwork
Helpers

The purpose of the Register of Pathwork Helpers as implemented in the initial launch phase is to provide a public listing of all accredited Pathwork Helpers and Apprentices in the US and Canada.  The Register acts as a public professional register, publicly certifying each person listed as being accredited in one of the above two Register categories and being in good standing.  The Register also has a publicity function and publicizes the practices of those listed in the Register.  For privacy reasons, each person listed in the Register can restrict the amount of information that appears in his/her entry in the Register.

The Register is in two parts.  Part 1 includes entries for Pathwork Helpers and Apprentices who are willing to receive inquiries from potential workers.  This Part is designed to facilitate searching by potential workers seeking Helpers and Apprentices to work with.

Part 2 contains entries for other qualified Pathwork Helpers and Apprentice Helpers who do not wish to receive inquiries from potential workers.  Listing these Helpers and Apprentices in a separate part shields them from unwanted inquiries.  Part 2 includes Helpers who have temporarily closed their practices (e.g. for health or family reasons) and Helpers with non-traditional practices.  Non-traditional practices include work in prisons, palliative care, and in non-profit, educational, governmental, political, and commercial bodies.

The entries in both parts are in alphabetical order within state/province.  This arrangement helps prospective workers to search the Register for their closest Helpers and Apprentices.  To assist the publicity function of the Register, each Registrant has the option of providing a limited amount of text in his/her own words.  An 80 word limit is set for this purpose.  While those listed might like to have a more generous limit, the need to provide printed versions of the Register to people not on the Internet necessitates limiting the size of the Register.  The need to limit Register length also applies to the web version of the Register, since the longer each entry is, the more web storage space is used, and the more users have to scroll when they search the Register.

The publicity function of the Register will also be enhanced by separate indexes.  Examples of possible indexes are: (a) An index recording the names and links to all the active Helpers who are willing to work in specific languages other than English, e.g. Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, Italian, Arabic, Hebrew; (b) An index recording the names of active Helpers who are willing to work at a distance using (for example) a combination of telephone and email.

The Register will initially be mounted on the PHANA web site, with links from the Pathwork Foundation web site and other Pathwork web sites.  Following a development period, the Register may be transferred to the Foundation site.
