D.      Dottie will undertake advising The Pathwork Leadership Circle of new additions to PTH on a regular basis.

E.      It was agreed that PHANA dues will be reduced by $25 for helpers who are (a) the only helpers in chapters/groups that do not offer PTP or HTP, and (b) want to join both PHANA and NAPA.

2.   Round of Sharing

We did a brief check-in with each member present.

3.   Possible Dates/Times for our Next Teleconference

We selected November 23, 2004 for our next teleconference.  The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. EST

4.   Remaining Actions from June 17 Minutes

Roddy reported that he had completed his action items in these minutes, including providing Council members with a PHANA Re-Launch document that includes the new proposed mission for PHANA.

Dottie reported that there is unlikely to be any automated way to update PHANA members or PTH subscribers of new postings to PTH.  She agreed to do this manually, reviewing the list of documents periodically and then sending a descriptive e-mail to the Pathwork Leadership Circle and PTH subscribers.  There was an extensive discussion of PTH at this point, but it will be covered in item 5 below.

Dottie also reported that she was unable to make any progress with HIPSO, the professional liability insurance company she contacted.  She was unable to get information from the American Counseling Association until she renewed her membership.  Her membership card arrived in the mail today.  She advised the council that ACA membership is $135 per year and their professional liability insurance is $250 a year for part-time.  [Correction:  $250 is the fee for a full-time counselor].  Dottie will report back via e-mail on any eligibility requirements ACA membership.  She could not find any on their web site.

5.   Pathwork Teacher’s Helper (PTH)

There was a lengthy discussion about ownership of PTH, the support it receives and foreign language translations.  PTH is a PHANA service that is supported by the Pathwork Press through their providing web space on the International Pathwork Foundation’s web site.  PHANA is responsible for the content.  Andi Kiva supports PTH by converting all submitted documents to .pdf format and uploading them to the web site.

Dottie reported that Tom wishes PHANA to follow the same format for PTH as is used for foreign language translations of the Pathwork® Lectures, including formal contracts for the translations, verification of the translations, and obtaining concurrence from all Brazilian Pathwork affiliates. It was noted that the PTH materials are donated materials and are not copyrighted, so we may be able to do this with a little less formality.  Dottie is working with Ana Maria Gavazzi in Brazil to coordinate verification of the translations and access to PTH by Brazilian Pathwork helpers and teachers.

Jan noted that Jose Maria Ruiz has completed the translation of all Pathwork® Lectures into Spanish and that this is likely to create an interest in teaching materials in Spanish.

Sahra recommended we have a thorough discussion about PHANA’s move into international waters and be sure that the PHANA Council is on board with it and that we understand the purpose of it.

6.   PHANA Re-Launch

We reviewed Roddy’s re-launch document and made several recommendations for changes, including the following:

·         Change the title from “re-launch” to “expansion,” “stage 2”, or other word.

·         Include the text of lecture quotes rather than solely references to lectures/page numbers.

·         Change the last sentence of item (h) of the membership criteria to read, “I have read and agree to abide by the PHANA Code of Conduct.”

We reviewed the draft renewal letter and decided it needed more “zip.”  Sahra lent her marketing expertise and made several suggestions, especially to include early in the letter exciting news and things to make members get excited about PHANA.

Dottie offered to draft a new letter that includes the Council’s comments and suggestions, together with a new version of the re-launch document.  She will complete these and e-mail them to Council no later than September 30.  Roddy explained that the letter and re-launch document will go to all existing members as the first step of our efforts.  After a suitable consultation period involving PHANA members, we will send a letter of invitation to those whose membership has lapsed or who qualify for membership but have never joined.  Sahra advised that the best marketing time is between now and October 31.  After that, we slip into a period when people won’t pay as much attention to mail they receive.

7.   Membership and Financial Status

Roddy reported that membership now stands at 41, down from 50 last year and 60 the year before.  Our income is presently $3635.  If we do no re-launch, we are likely looking at a full-year income of $5500, a considerable drop from our first-year-of-operation income of $7040, and even further down from last year’s income of $7290.  To reach our first-year income we need 14 new members.  To reach last year’s income we need 16 new members.

8.   NAPA and PHANA Fees for Solo Chapters/Groups

NAPA has decided to discount its annual fee by $25 for single helpers who are (a) the only helpers in chapters/groups that do not offer PTP or HTP, and (b) want to join both PHANA and NAPA.  There are only a few of these.  They have asked that PHANA do the same.  NAPA’s fee of $100 would drop to $75, and PHANA’s $110 fee would drop to $85, for a total fee of $160.  The Council voted to approve this reduction.

9.   New Approach to the Pathwork

It was noted that the Pathwork in North America has experienced a decline in membership since the 70’s. There was a brief discussion of the need for a new approach.  This was tabled until the next meeting.
