New HTP Recognition Procedure - 1

1.    INTRODUCTION

The purpose of the procedure below is to provide a fair and agreed-upon manner of adding US/Canadian Helper training programs to the list of programs that PHANA recognizes as providing training that qualifies Helpers to join PHANA and to be listed in PHANA's Register of Pathwork Helpers.

2.    BENEFITS OF ADVANCE RECOGNITION

“Advance recognition” means that PHANA adds the new program to the above-mentioned list of recognized training programs – and that it does this before trainees sign up for the new program.  A publicly accessible version of this list is mounted on the PHANA website.

Advance recognition is highly recommended because it offers the greatest benefits for all concerned, namely:

(i)

Trainees gain by knowing – prior to signing up – that the training program meets the training requirements necessary for PHANA membership and entry into PHANA's Register of Pathwork Helpers.

(ii)

A new training program gains by obtaining advance recognition.  This recognition increases the program’s standing and is a positive point to mention in publicity with respect to the program.  It also makes the program more attractive to prospective trainees, helping them decide in favor of signing up for the program.

(iii)

When trainees sign up for a program, there is an at least implicit trainee/program contract.  Any significant change to the program after the signing up process essentially changes this trainee/program contract, and is therefore to be avoided if possible.  Advance recognition is helpful here because recognition requirements are already met before the trainee signs up – therefore no program changes to obtain recognition need to be made after trainee signup.

(iv)

The community of Pathwork Helpers gains by greater protection of the meaning, value, and credibility of the term “Pathwork Helper.”

(v)

PHANA and its members gain from greater protection of the credibility of PHANA’s Register of Pathwork Helpers.

Advance PHANA recognition is highly recommended for the reasons/benefits outlined above.  PHANA recognition is in any case recommended because graduates of non-recognized programs need to be recognized by an already recognized training program before they can join PHANA and be listed in its Register of Pathwork Helpers.  This is very disadvantageous for these graduates and is to be avoided if at all possible.
