DEVELOPMENTS SINCE THE JANUARY 2002 BOARD MEETING
PHANA Membership
With input from the Foundation Board, Council finalized the list to be used for sending out invitations to join PHANA. The list totaled 137: 116 Helpers and 21 Apprentice Helpers. Following Council's finalization of the invitation package, invitations were sent out by regular mail on March 20/02. As of May 6, 27 applications had been received, all but one of which have been accepted. The single application that has not yet been accepted was not accompanied by a check. The Helper in question has been asked to send in a check. The number of members (26) represents 42% of the total of 69 members PHANA budgeted to have by April 30/03.
From a financial point of view, PHANA had received $3025 in membership fees and donations - as of May 6. This represents 46% of the total revenue budgeted to be received in the 12 months ending April 30/03.
Council plans to send out reminders to encourage those intending to join to send in their applications. In addition, Roddy Duchesne is visiting a number of Regions and it is hoped that his visits will also help raise the profile of PHANA (and the Foundation) and therefore help raise membership numbers.
Reminders will also be needed to help bring in Register information from members. As of May 6, only 6 of the 26 members had sent in their Register information. The chief reason for this slow progress is that Registrants are invited to supply an optional text of up to 80 words to go in their Register entry. People need time to work up their 80 words!
Assuming that its reminder campaigns are reasonably fruitful, it is reasonable to project that PHANA will attain the bare minimum membership and revenue that it needs to survive. However, much work remains to be done to build it into a stronger, more survivable, and effective professional association.
PHANA Council
In early May, Council welcomed Lisa Schumacher who took over from Maraiel Ruth as Pathwork of California representative. As of May 6, Council membership was as follows: Sahra Aschenbach (Vermont), Roddy Duchesne (Canada), Kathy Fleisher (Mid-Atlantic), Jan Rigsby (Australia and California), Judith Saly (New York), Lisa Schumacher (California), Cynthia Schwartzberg (Georgia), Dottie Titus (Minnesota). In addition, Council has been and continues to be significantly assisted by Lorraine Marino (Philadelphia), providing liaison with the The 50/50 Work©.
OTHER PROJECTS
Teaching Resource Project
Council expresses its appreciation of Dottie Titus and Jan Rigsby for undertaking to work on the PHANA side of this cooperative PHANA/PWP project. Dottie leads and Jan assists. The aim of the project is to create an ongoing service to facilitate the sharing of Teaching Resources among Pathwork Helpers.
Inter-Training Program Dialogue and Cooperation
One of the purposes of Roddy Duchesne's Regional visits is to assess Regional interest in greater inter-training program dialogue and cooperation. The principal practical idea on the table is a possible meeting of senior Teachers/Leaders to agree on how to proceed. Susan Thesenga has expressed interest in fostering more active inter-training program dialogue and discussion. The following dates have so far been set up for Roddy's visits: California May 30 to June 3; Sevenoaks/PWF Office/PWP August 22 to August 27. A visit to Philadelphia is in process of being finalized. This will likely take place August 27-28.
Code of Ethics or Practice
The need for some form of Code of Ethics or Practice has recently been identified in Council discussions. Reference to a suitable Code should desirably be included in the criteria for PHANA membership and for inclusion in the Register of Pathwork Helpers.
A draft Code might also be considered for adoption as part of the curricula of Helper training programs. This portion of Helper training curricula might extend to related practical matters such as Helper/Worker contracts, boundaries for individual and group work, and liability insurance.
Council expresses its appreciation and acceptance of Sahra Aschenbach's offer to develop draft proposals for Council's consideration.
BOARD ACTION RECOMMENDED
The following item is brought forward from the minutes of the January 2002 Board meeting:
"A trustee will be chosen as soon as possible to liaise with PHANA. This liaison will include work towards a clearer delineation of the roles and relationships between PWF, PWP, and PHANA, and liaison concerning arrangements for collecting PWF and PHANA fees." (Item 13 in the Board minutes)
